Whether it’s a simple cut, a sudden seizure, or heatstroke during summer walks—we’re ready to act.

What Counts as a Pet Emergency?

Understanding warning signs can make all the difference.

Vital Signs to Watch:

  • Heart Rate: 60–140 bpm (dogs), 140–250 bpm (cats)

  • Temperature: 100.4°F–102.5°F

  • Breathing: 10–30/min (dogs), 20–30/min (cats)

  • Gums: Healthy = pink. Pale, yellow, or blue = concern.

  • Capillary Refill Time: 1.5–2 seconds

Life-Threatening Emergencies:

  • Not breathing or unconscious

  • Seizures over 5 minutes or multiple episodes

  • Choking or airway blockage

  • Severe trauma or bleeding

  • Poison ingestion (chocolate, meds, plants, etc.)

Urgent but Not Critical:

  • Limping or mobility issues

  • Vomiting or diarrhea with behavior changes

  • Allergic reactions or insect stings

  • Heatstroke or hypothermia

Emergency Response Protocols

We always prioritize safety first—for your pet and ourselves.

CPR Steps (Per PetTech®):

  1. Ensure the area is safe.

  2. Check responsiveness: call name + gentle tap.

  3. Open airway, remove visible obstructions.

  4. Give rescue breaths: every 4–6 sec (dogs), 3–5 sec (cats).

  5. Begin compressions: 30 compressions to 2 breaths

    • Use fingers for small pets, hands for large dogs

  6. Continue until revived or help arrives.

First Aid for Common Issues:

  • Bleeding: Apply pressure for 3–5 min. Do NOT remove objects.

  • Choking: Tilt head, give back blows. Begin CPR if unresponsive.

  • Heatstroke: Cool with wet towels. Stop once body temp reaches 103°F.

  • Poisoning: Call ASPCA (888-426-4435) or Pet Poison Helpline (855-764-7661)

  • Seizures: Time it. Clear space. Comfort post-episode. Seek vet if over 5 min.
