National Cat Day 2026: 5 Ways to Celebrate Your Cat
Happy National Cat Day!
Celebrated every October 29, National Cat Day honors our feline companions and raises awareness about cats needing loving homes.
Here are five simple ways to celebrate your cat.
1. Make Time for Play
Play encourages natural hunting behaviors and mental stimulation.
Try:
Wand toys
Puzzle feeders
Catnip toys
Short play sessions
Tip: Follow your cat's interest and supervise play with string toys.
2. Refresh Their Favorite Spaces
Make your cat's environment more comfortable.
Try:
Cozy hiding spots
Scratching posts
Safe window perches
Clean litter boxes
Tip: Provide quiet spaces where your cat can rest undisturbed.
3. Show Affection Their Way
Every cat has different preferences.
Let your cat approach first and choose when to receive affection.
Fear Free® tip: Not every cat enjoys cuddles. Quiet companionship counts, too!
4. Check Their Health
Use National Cat Day to review:
Veterinary wellness visits
Dental health
Weight and appetite
Microchip information
Tip: Contact your veterinarian about concerning health or behavior changes.
5. Support Local Rescue Cats
Help cats waiting for loving homes.
Ways to give back:
Adopt or foster
Donate supplies
Volunteer
Share adoption opportunities
Local shelters:
Every contribution makes a difference.
