Christina Nguyen Completes Red Cross First Aid, CPR & AED Training

Earlier this month, PS4C Pet Care Specialist Christina Nguyen earned her Fear Free® Pet Sitter Certification.
Now she has completed another milestone:
American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED training.
Christina completed the course on August 16, 2026, in Fairfax, Virginia, strengthening the emergency-response skills she brings to PS4C families in Ballston, Clarendon/Courthouse, and Rosslyn.
Hands-On CPR Training
Christina completed a blended Red Cross course with online learning and hands-on practice.
The in-person session was led by Anthony “Tony” DeLaRosa, a Red Cross and American Heart Association instructor with 30+ years of experience as a New York City paramedic.
His real-world experience helped make the training practical, engaging, and easy to apply.
What Christina Learned
Training covered:
Adult, child, and infant CPR
AED use
Choking response
First aid
Cardiac and breathing emergencies
Emergency communication
Why This Matters for Pet Parents
PS4C team members work independently in homes, apartment buildings, and neighborhoods.
If a human emergency occurs, Christina’s training helps her:
Recognize the situation
Call 911 quickly
Communicate clearly
Respond within the scope of her training
In Arlington apartments and condos, knowing the unit, floor, entrance, and concierge procedures can also help responders reach the right location faster.

Christina practiced the Red Cross emergency framework:
CHECK: Make sure the scene is safe.
CALL: Contact 911 and explain the emergency and location.
CARE: Provide appropriate assistance until professional responders arrive.
For medical emergencies, lifesaving care comes first.
What About the Pets?
Emergencies can also frighten pets.
Alarms, open doors, unfamiliar responders, and sudden activity may cause a pet to hide, bolt, or become stressed.
When safe, securing pets and keeping entryways clear can help reduce additional risk without delaying emergency care.
This complements our Fear Free® approach to reducing fear, anxiety, and stress whenever possible.
Human CPR and Pet CPR Are Different
Each type of training serves a different purpose:

Pet First Aid & CPR
Emergencies involving dogs and cats
Fear Free® Education
Lower-stress handling and humane care
Human CPR training does not replace pet-specific emergency training.
What’s Next for Christina?
Christina is scheduled to complete a hands-on Pet Tech® Pet First Aid & CPR class on August 22, 2026.
Training includes pet CPR, choking response, basic first aid, and recognizing when veterinary care may be needed.
Pet parents can benefit from these skills too. Taking a hands-on pet first aid and CPR class can help you feel more prepared for an emergency involving your own pet.
