Earlier this week, we introduced Christina Nguyen, the newest Pet Care Specialist in Training at Pet Sitting 4 Comfort® (PS4C).

Now, we’re celebrating her first professional milestone:

Christina has earned her Fear Free® Pet Sitter Certification.

For Arlington pet parents, that means another PS4C caregiver is trained to recognize fear, anxiety, and stress (FAS) and respond based on each pet’s comfort level.

What Is Fear Free® Pet Sitting?

Fear Free® education focuses on reducing fear, anxiety, and stress during everyday pet care.

Christina completed approximately six hours of science-based coursework covering:

  • Dog and cat body language

  • Behavior and enrichment

  • Low-stress greetings

  • Physical care and medications

  • Dog walking and wellbeing

  • Common behavior concerns

The program was also reviewed by Pet Sitters International (PSI) and the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters (NAPPS).

What Can Fear Free® Care Look Like?

Every pet is different.

A shy cat may need extra space and time to approach. An excitable dog may do better with a calmer greeting or less stimulation during a walk.

Depending on the pet, care may include:

  • Slowing down greetings

  • Giving cautious pets more space

  • Offering play or enrichment

  • Providing quiet companionship

  • Watching body language during handling or medications

  • Respecting boundaries as trust develops

The focus is on meeting each pet where they are.

How Christina Is Training in Client Homes

Christina has already completed more than 50 hours of supervised field training throughout Arlington.

Her hands-on training includes:

  • Following pet and household routines

  • Safe home entry and security

  • Secure leash handling

  • Recognizing health or behavior changes

  • Sending detailed Time To Pet reports and photos

She will continue supervised training as she takes on more client care responsibilities.

What’s Next for Christina?

Christina is currently completing the Karen Pryor Academy Train Your Cat course.

Her coursework includes:

  • Feline body language

  • Clicker training

  • Building confidence in shy cats

  • Carrier training

  • Teaching useful behaviors

  • Addressing common behavior challenges

She is also scheduled to complete:

These next steps expand her skills in feline training and emergency preparedness.

Why PS4C Uses Supervised Training

Professional certifications build knowledge. Supervised training helps new caregivers learn how PS4C operates before working more independently.

It also gives experienced team members a chance to coach, observe, and reinforce company standards in real client environments.

For pet parents, that supports greater consistency across the PS4C team.
