Fireworks and summer gatherings are fun for people—but they can be overwhelming for pets. Loud noises, flashing lights, and disrupted routines often lead to stress or safety issues, especially for cats, senior pets, and anxious dogs.

Follow these essential tips to keep your pets secure, calm, and comfortable this holiday:

1. Prepare a Safe, Quiet Space

Create a familiar retreat inside your home where your pet feels secure.

  • Use a quiet room with closed doors and windows

  • Add soft bedding, favorite toys, and background noise (TV or white noise)

2. Check ID Tags & Microchip Info

Before the holiday:

  • Make sure your pet’s collar is snug and has an ID tag

  • Update your microchip registry information

  • Keep recent photos in case your pet gets lost

Note: July 4th is one of the highest days for lost pet reports.

3. Use Calming Aids Thoughtfully

Help reduce anxiety with:

  • Pheromone sprays or diffusers (like Adaptil or Feliway)

  • Calming wraps or shirts

  • Vet-approved supplements or medications, if needed

Talk with your vet in advance if your pet has a history of fear-based behaviors.

4. Keep Pets Indoors—No Fireworks

Even pets that seem unbothered can react unpredictably.

  • Keep them inside during fireworks shows

  • Avoid sparklers or firecrackers near your yard

  • Never tether or leave pets outdoors unattended

5. Manage Entrances & Exits

Hosting guests?

  • Let them know you have pets

  • Ask visitors to keep doors and gates closed

  • Block off high-risk exits if needed

Tip for PS4C Clients

We recommend scheduling walks before 6:00 PM on July 4th. If your pet is sensitive to noise, let us know—we’ll adjust visit timing and routines as needed.
